The Kingdom of Cambodia has given African nationals in the country a deadline of May 31st to leave the country or face arrest, as the country steps up efforts to clean up and eliminate all cybercrime occurring in the country.
Over the last few weeks, authorities in the country have carried out several operations on a number of foreigners, in an alleged bid to ensure the citizens safety.
In an order sent out to the public, the Kingdom’s Director General of immigration Lt. Gen. Som Sopheak said a waiver granted to all African nationals including citizens of Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda will officially end on May 31st, after which Africans will be arrested on sight.
“All foreign nationals whose fines have been cleared must leave Cambodia on or before 31st of May 2026. Any foreign national who enters, remains or is found in Cambodia from 1st of June 2026 will be arrested at the airport or at any location and shall serve a jail term of two years and pay a penalty of USD 8,000, before being allowed to leave Cambodia” the statement read.
Lt. Gen. Som, said authorities will start arresting any foreigner found in any hideout in Cambodia from 1st of June 2026 for overstay and will hand over to the immigration authorities for legal action.
“All concerned are hereby informed to strictly comply with this notice, the Royal Government of Cambodia will not tolerate any violation of our immigration laws” he said.
According to local media reports, over 3,598 foreigners, 261 of whom are women, comprised of 37 nationalities: Russia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Kenya, Uganda, China, Malaysia, Morocco, Pakistan, Taiwan, Cameroon, Indonesia, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, India, Philippines, Japan, Vietnam, Nigeria, Liberia, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Myanmar, Korea, Turkey, Benin, Laos, UK, Thailand, Zimbabwe, Burundi, Australia, South Africa, Namibia, Rwanda, Chad, and Egypt.
1,794 Chinese were deported via special aircraft at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport Gate Police Station and Techo International Airport Gate Police Station.
127 Vietnamese involved in online scams were deported at Meun Chey International Border Gate Police Station.
