The Uganda Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke, has revealed that the force has in custody two suspects believed to have been of a group that broke into Bank of Uganda and stole seven laptops on Monday.

Kituuma noted that the arrests were carried out on Thursday, by the police intelligence teams, during which two laptops were also recovered.

“The suspects have been identified as Kule Boaz Michael, 19, a resident of Wabigalo, and Kabuye Ramadhan, also known as Rhama, a resident of Nsambya Zone C, both in Kampala City. The suspects are currently in police custody, and two stolen laptops have since been recovered” he said.

Kituuma revealed that the suspects will soon be arraigned before the courts of law.

The country was left shocked on Monday after news of a break in at the Bank of Uganda Head Office premises at Plot 45, Kampala Road in which seven laptops were stolen in the wee hours of Monday.

Following the raid, joint security forces visited the bank, picked evidence and later introduced a police sniffer dog to aide in the investigations.

The dog then led the police to three downtown buildings which included Kalungi Plaza, Kirumira Towers and Mutaasa Kafeero, which the security personnel sealed off and carried out several arrests of individuals accused of dealing in stolen gadgets.

The Bank also issued a statement assuring the public that all its services and operations remain fully functional and the matter is under investigation.
