Yet to be identified thugs have broken into the Bank of Uganda Head Office premises at Plot 45, Kampala Road, and stolen seven laptops.
According to sources, the theft at the offices located near the City Square, occured in the wee hours of Monday.
Following the raid, joint security forces visited the bank, picked evidence and later introduced a police sniffer dog to aide in the investigations.
The dog then led the police to three downtown buildings which included Kalungi Plaza, Kirumira Towers and Mutaasa Kafeero, which the security personnel sealed off and carried out several arrests of individuals accused of dealing in stolen gadgets.
The Bank has since issued a statement assuring the public that all its services and operations remain fully functional and the matter is under investigation.
“The matter is currently under investigation, and the BoU is working closely with the relevant security agencies to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and to take appropriate action” the statement read.
