At least Seven people have been confirmed dead and two others injured after a Toyota Fielder registration number UA 702DL, rammed into pedestrians at Rusharara in Kabwohe, along the Bushenyi – Mbarara Highway around 7am on Saturday.
According to reports, the pedestrians were returning from prayers at St. Rose Catholic Centre and Breakthrough Bethel International Ministries (BBMI) in Kabwohe Town.
The acting Greater Bushenyi Region Police spokesperson, SP Apollo Tayebwa, confirmed the incident, stating that seven pedestrians died on the spot and were taken to Kabwohe Health Centre 111 for post-mortem, while two others sustained critical injuries and were rushed to ICOBI Hospital for urgent medical attention.
During the recent release of the 2025 Police report, the AIGP Traffic & Road Safety, AIGP Niwabiine Lawrence revealed an increase of 3.7 percent in recorded traffic crashes with a total 26,044 road traffic crashes reported last year compared to 25,107 crashes recorded in 2024.
