The Ntungamo District Local Government has today 15th of April 2026 released a public notice declaring an enforcement exercise aimed at restoring order in the trading environment of Kafunjo, Mirama and Sofia towns, effective 30th April 2026.
The operation will target unauthorized business setups and vendors across the three towns in a bid to streamline commerce and improve public safety.
According to the notice signed by Town Clerk Atuhaire Nelson, the enforcement will lead to the removal of wooden kiosks and temporary structures lining the roads, merchandise displayed outside formal shops, illegal structures, and all street vendors operating without permits.
The action is being carried out in compliance with the Local Government Act, Public Health Act, Physical Planning Act 2010, and the Trade and Licensing Act.
The chairperson of the Traders Association has been urged to inform all traders and vendors about the upcoming exercise before 30th April 2026 to avoid inconveniences.
Authorities say the move will create a safer, regulated business environment and improve physical planning in the towns.
The notice was copied to the RDC Ntungamo, the chairperson of LCI Kafunjo‑Mirama Town Council, the chairperson of the Business Community KMTC, the Officer in Charge of Kafunjo‑Mirama Police Station, and the GISO of Kafunjo‑Mirama Town Council, ensuring a coordinated implementation of the trade‑order enforcement.
Residents and business owners in Kafunjo, Mirama and Sofia are advised to prepare for the changes, ensure their operations comply with licensing requirements, and seek guidance from the Traders Association or local authorities for smooth transition.
