The Rubaare Town Council leadership in Ntungamo District, has given traders and business operators until April 15, 2026, to vacate the central business area and all major roads in the town council, to pave way for the enforcement of the local governments trade order.
According to a notice issued on Wednesday by the Rubaare Town Clerk Byamukama Emmanuel, the move seeks to streamline commercial activities in the town and ensure compliance with local regulations.
Byamukama noted that the enforcement will focus on several measures to reorganize the business environment, including the removal of temporary structures and kiosks in the central business area and along major roads.
“The clearance of street vendors who operate both day and night, removal of merchandise displayed outside shops, on shoulders, walkways or road reserves, demolition of illegal developments and annexes, restructuring of public transport operations, and the strict application of the Local Government Act, Physical Planning Act, Trade and Licensing Act, Public Health Act, and Market Act to ensure lawful trade practices” he said.
Byamukama further noted that the notice calls on businesses and traders to align their operations with the new directives to avoid disruptions in their activities.
Copies of the order have been distributed to the RDC – Ntungamo, local chairpersons, the police, and other relevant authorities to facilitate smooth implementation.
The move is expected to enhance order and safety in Rubaare’s commercial sector, prompting traders to prepare for the regulatory changes ahead of the April 15 deadline.
The warning to Rubaare traders on Wednesday coincided with the eviction exercise of hundreds of traders from Ntungamo District main roads.
According to the Ntungamo district deputy Town Clerk Andrew Walabyeki, the exercise that saw the demolition and removal of illegal structures and kiosks in district central business area, will be carried out across all district divisions to restore urban order.
