The Ugandan Journalism Fraternity is in deep fear after journalist Arnold Anthony Mukose, attached to DigiTalk Media was abducted by unidentified plain clothed men outside the main gate of Metro FM 90.8 along Martin Road in Old Kampala on Sunday Afternoon.

According to eyewitnesses, Mukose was abducted at around 1pm after a radio talk show on the Court’s nullification of sections of the Computer Misuse Act for violating rights and procedures.

They noted that Mukose was forced into a grey Toyota Noah by the men, who quickly drove off to an unknown destination.

The Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) has in a statement since condemned Mukose’s abduction and called for his immediate and unconditional release.

UJA spokesperson Kabuye Ronald, described the abdution as an attack on press freedom, freedom of expression, and the safety of journalists.

“This unlawful abduction undermines the ability of journalists to carry out their professional duties without fear,” Kabuye said when contacted.

Kabuye further called on security agencies to urgently explain the circumstances surrounding Mukose’s disappearance.

“Witnesses claimed that the individuals involved identified themselves as security officers, raising serious concerns about the nature of the operation” he said.

The media body urged authorities to uphold the rule of law and ensure the protection of journalists across the country.
