The Inspector General of Government (IGG) Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, has made a site visit to one of the 17 properties forfeited to the state by corrupt public officials.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, the properties are undergoing valuation by the Chief Government valuer to establish the reserve price for purposes of disposal.
The IGG noted that the property which is located in Kitende along Entebbe Road, Wakiso District, belonged to a former staff of Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA).
“Investigations by IGG established that the official had under declared his assets by UGX 1.6B and in lieu of prosecution, surrendered property holding ten apartments in Busiro Block 383 Plot 9726 land at Kitende. The property currently fetches a monthly rent of UGX 7 million which goes to the IG Asset Recovery Account in Bank of Uganda” the statement read.
Lady Justice Naluzze noted that the institution would continue tracing more properties so as to recover stolen public funds.
“This move upholds the institution’s strong commitment to elimination of corruption through the asset tracing and financial profiling strategy” she said.
The inspectorate noted that over the last few years, it has recovered several properties in the form of land and buildings, either as a result of Court Orders or forfeited in lieu of prosecution, or arising from investigations.
