The City Hall Magistrate’s Court has charged and remanded over 200 suspected criminals for allegedly disturbing the peace in Kampala City and it’s neighbouring areas.
The suspects who were arrested during joint security operations on Monday were allegedly found in possession of narcotic drugs, causing a public nuisance and snatching women’s handbags among other crimes.
The arrests were made over the weekend during joint security operation in areas of Wakiso, including Kira, Kiwologoma, Kitukutwe, and Namugongo, as well as in Kampala, including Nateete, Nakasero, and Kisseka Market.
Prior to their arraignment in court, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police PRO Luke Owoyesigyire had earlier in the day revealed that the suspects were arrested by a joint taskforce in various parts of Wakiso district and Kampala City.
Owoyesigyire noted that the operations aimed at combating crime and enhancing public safety, were carried out in the areas of Nansana West Ward, Kyebando and Gganda in Wakiso Sub-county and Nansana Municipality; Kitukutwe Zone, Kiwologoma and Namugongo Nsawo Zone in Kira Municipality; Kyanja under Kira Road Policing Area; and selected black spots within the Central Business District of Kampala.
Owoyesigyire revealed that the areas had been identified as gathering points for individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities that have been affecting residents and members of the public.
