With only a day left to the national polls, the Soroti District RDC Hajji Imran Muluga, has announced the a ban on the movement of people at night starting Tuesday evening aimed at preventing voter bribery by candidates through distributing household commodities as the elections kick off.

“The district security committee in its several meetings has resolved for all this voting season, we don’t expect you to move at night, opening houses irregularly that you have certain goods that you want to give” he said.

Hajj Muluga who made the remarks while addressing journalists at the East Kyoga Regional Offices, noted that security agencies are ready and will be patrolling at night to look out for the candidates moving from home to home giving out commodities.

“Even when we arrive and maybe you opened houses and we get information that you have left, we have sniffer dogs, they are going to follow up the culprits who are moving at night to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book” he said.

The RDC noted that this is aimed at ensuring that the area has a free and fair election by ensuring voters are not influenced during voting by politicians with items like salt and soap.

“As the representative of the President and central government in Soroti, I want to assure our people and all Ugandans that the country is ready for this national exercise” he said.

Hajj Muluga further urged voters to desist from going to the polling station while intoxicated which could lead them to becoming violent at the polling centres.
