The kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire has revealed that the force has recovered UGX 105 million and a motorcycle allegedly purchased with money from the 22nd August aggravated robbery at Kakeka Zone, Rubaga Division.
In a statement released on Friday, Owoyesigyire noted that the Old Kampala Police Division has made significant progress in investigating the aggravated robbery when robbers armed with panga’s intercepted Mr Ausi Kisitu, an accountant with Give and Take Hardware, while he was transporting UGX 242 million to the bank.
“On that day, a group of thugs armed with pangas and riding on five motorcycles violently intercepted a city hardware accountant, robbed him of UGX 242 million that he was taking to the bank. Fortunately, neither the victim nor his rider was injured during the attack” he said.
Owoyesigyire added, “During the operations, Police recovered UGX 105 million, a motorcycle believed to have been purchased with proceeds of the robbery, and a black laptop bag containing vouchers and receipts from the victim’s Hardware, these exhibits were positively identified by the complainant ” he said.
Owoyesigyire noted that following swift intelligence led operations, detectives analyzed CCTV footage and other leads, which led to the arrest of several suspects so far.
The suspects under custody include; Bakunda Steven alias Kevin, Atwine Robert Kiiza alias Mzee Lubuto, Andebuni Brian alias Junior Black, Musuza Raymond alias Caesar, Ssali Andrew alias Ande Swag, Kanyerezi Stanley. Nsubuga Andrew and Aboth Shivan Alecho (charged as an accessory after the fact).
Owoyesigyire revealed that the suspects face charges of Aggravated Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and Being Accessories After the Fact to a Felony as investigations to trace other accomplices who are still at large continue.
