Entebbe Police has in custody two suspects in the gruesome double July murder of David Mutaaga, 69 and his wife, Deborah Florence Mutaaga, 62 in their home in Lugonjo – Nakiwogo, Division ‘B’ in Entebbe municipality.
According to source privy to the investigation, the suspects were picked up on Sunday evening by the police flying squad and were transported back to Entebbe police station to help in the investigations,
On Monday, the suspects were taken to a residence in Lugonjo – Nakiwogo where a condone and search operation was conducted, however details of what was recovered from the residences is yet to be revealed by the police.
Following the couple’s murder, the police initially took into custody two siblings Angela Nakalema and Ronald Golooba who were caretakers and house helps of the late couple and first responders on the scene.
The two arrived at the scene after Ms Mutaaga rung Golooba asking for help as the killer hacked off her husband, the duo were later on released back to their families as investigations intensified.
On the fateful day of the murder, the Mutaaga’s had organized a small get together comprising of seven invited guests who included two adults, four teens and a toddler, however the guests identities remain under protection to date.
To help with the investigations police released a 40-second audio along with a still image grab of the said masked killer captured on the various CCTV Cameras mounted around the home to the public to help in identifying the suspect.
The force also announced a Shs 50 million reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest who is said to have accessed the couple home by climbing over the high perimeter wall fence with the assistance of an avocado tree located near the wall.
Along the investigation President Yoweri Museveni ordered ISO to carry out an independent investigation into the double murders.
Efforts to get comment from the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango were futile by the time of this publication.
The Mutaaga’s had recently returned to Uganda after living in Switzerland for over 30 years and settled in their new home, their children Isabel Najitta Mutaaga and Mark Ernest Kabenge Mutaaga have declined to return back to the country until their parents killer is arrested for fear of their safety.
