Entertainment journalist Benjamin Kalyesubula has joined the race for the country’s highest office as an independent candidate in the 2026 national polls.
Kalyesubula, formerly belonging to National Unity Platform (NUP) on Wednesday declared his intention to run independently to challenge President Kaguta Museveni, NUP Principal Robert Kyagulanyi and other runners in the presidential polls.
Kalyesubula said his decision to leave NUP was allegedly because the party leadership has failed to provide a fair and transparent process for selecting its flag bearer in next year’s polls.
“Am here to confirm that am going to stand as a president of the republic of Uganda come 2026-2031, the reason is I have been a member of the National Unity Platform and because there is no democracy in National Unity Platform, that’s why I have come to contest for the presidency as an independent candidate” Kalyesubula told Journalists on Wednesday.
Kalyesubula who is known as Manager Jamal, says he will focus on: Jobs, Education, Agriculture, Technology & Transparency, and Health with dignity and Restoration of National unity.
