The Tooro Royal Family has revealed that the late late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who passed away on August 27, 2026, at the age of 34 while receiving cancer treatment in the United States, in his will clearly stated that his son would be next in line to the throne in case of his untimely death.

In part of the will read on Wednesday evening and shared on the Kingdoms officials X handle, the family said King Oyo’s son was named as the next heir to the Tooro throne and providing for alternative successors should his heir be unable to take over.

In the will, King Oyo further lays out a fall back succession plan in case of his death and his son is unable to succeed him, for the throne to be passed to his cousin brothers, Prince Komwiswa and Prince Nyaika.

“If my son dies before he can assume the Throne, is permanently incapacitated, or is otherwise unable to succeed or assume the duties and responsibilities of the Throne, then My Cousin Prince Komwiswa Yoweri, son of Musuga Charles Kamurasi Akiiki, shall be my heir and successor to the Throne as Omukama of Tooro. If Komwiswa Yoweri is unable to succeed or assume the throne, then succession shall pass next to my cousin Prince Nyaika Solomon, son of Musuga Charles Kamurasi Akiiki my paternal uncle” part of the will reads.

The revelation came on Wednesday night as the Royal family led by Princess Ruth Komuntale rejected the announcement naming Prince Edward Kijanangoma as successor to the late King Oyo.

“So I would like to refute that information, it is inaccurate, it is incorrect. Just to give you a little background, my brother, he left behind a will, which stated very, very clearly that the next person in line is his son, that’s the next heir to the throne” she said.

She added, “He also left very strict instructions on any other successors who might take over, just in case of a plan B. But what was mentioned today was not accurate, so I just want to really reiterate that”.

Princess Komuntale noted that earlier in the day, the family had a meeting with the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Gen Henry Tumukunde, alongside Omusuga Charles Kamurasi and members of the Babito Roya clan which was meant to be followed up by another meeting with lawyers on Thursday, to go over the will one more time before the next successor is actually proclaimed and is mentioned.

Queen Mother Best Kemigisa, further revealed that the royal guards have been withdrawn Karuzika Royal Palace and that the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has deployed around the premises.

“Now, three days to my son’s burial, Gen. Kayanja Muhanga came to the Palace and removed the royal guards without notice, and troops were deployed around the Palace. They took the Musuuga away to a location we were not told,” she said.

Her Majesty Best Kemigisa, noted that the deployment has restricted movement of the royal family, which can no longer leave the grounds or receive visitors freely.
