There were scenes of commotion at Wandegeya Police Station in Kampala City, after a fire broke out at the station on Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters were seen battling a blaze, after a thick plume of smoke was seen billowing from the premises.
While addressing media at the scene, the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Speaker Rt. Hon John Mary Ssebuwufu, expressed grief with the fire incident and further urged the construction of wider roads to ease access to buildings in case or emergencies.
“The extensive damage I have seen wouldn’t have happened, if there was access to the area but by the time they moved around the area trying to access the fire point, a lot of property had already got destroyed” he said.
By the time of this publication, the IGP Abas Byakagaba had visited the police station, however the cause of the fire remains unknown, with police yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
