The Police at Natete has in custody 93 suspected gang members following an intelligence led operation for suspected criminal activities along the Northern Bypass, particularly around Busega and Kyengera Flyover.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Kawala Racheal, the operation was conducted on Wednesday between 7pm and 11 pm to address suspected criminal activities during the evening traffic hours.
“The operation covered the Northern Bypass, Busega Fish Market, including cinema halls in the surrounding area. The swamp beyond Mityana Road Flyover towards Bulenga and other identified areas within Kigwanya Zone, Kampala District” she said.
Kawala noted that the suspected criminals were allegedly using the identified areas as hiding places and taking advantage of traffic congestion to target members of the public.
“A total of 93 suspects, including four females, were arrested during the operation. A preliminary search of the suspects led to the recovery of several exhibits, including; suspected opium, suspected stolen mobile phones and two knives, among other exhibits” she said.
Kawala revealed that the arrested suspects and recovered exhibits were taken up for further processing and investigation in accordance with the law.
