One person has been shot dead and four others arrested, after a police officer on duty foiled an attack on Bugoye Sub-County Police station in Kasese District, in the wee hours of Thursday.
According to the Uganda Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, the attack that occurred at around 2 am, was carried out by at least six people armed with pangas.
“They went for an officer on duty and attempted to seize his firearm, the officer resisted and shot one of the attackers in the leg. The injured suspect fled the scene but was later found dead some metres away” he said.
Kituuma noted that the deceased’s identity has not yet been confirmed however, four people have been arrested in connection with the incident identified as Irumba Simon, Kiiza Abson, Kadama George, and Baluku Lenaxi.
“Police recovered a panga, at the scene while the body of the attacker was conveyed to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination” he said.
Kituuma noted that investigations are continuing, including efforts to establish the circumstances of the attack and trace the suspects who fled.
“We call upon members of the public with information that may help identify or locate those who fled to report it to the nearest police station. Please also report any suspicious activity that may be connected to this incident” he said.
