Three people have been killed in a suspected arson attack in Nansana West 1A, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, after a landlord reportedly locked herself and two other tenants inside a house before setting it ablaze around midnight on Sunday.
The Police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke confirmed the incident during the weekly police briefing at Naguru on Monday, noting that the deceased bodies were burnt beyond recognition as police investigations commence.
“Three lives are suspected to have been lost and also six survivors is the estimated number, the deceased are reported to be Bulali Isabirye, Namulondo Annet and Nanyombi Violet, the bodies were burned beyond recognition, so identification remains subject to confirmation” he said.
He added, “It is said that the premises are rented out from Nanyombi Violet. Police, fire and rescue services responded and distinguished the fire. We are still doing further investigations, but we are treating this one as an arson for now”.
Kituuma further revealed that the one of the victims is reported to have started the fire according to preliminary investigations.
“There are also some pieces of evidence that have been picked from the ground. I may not go into all the details, but one of the most obvious is there were some writings left behind” he said.
He added, “When this person was going to set the fire, he even pushed out some people from the house and was visibly violent”.
