The National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine’s civilian body guard Agaba Anthony aka Bobi Young from prison after nearly three years without trial.
The party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, noted Bobi young was granted amnesty by the military court after he was forced to plead guilty to unlawful possession of defence stores under Section 160 of the UPDF Act.
“Bobi Young was violently abducted on 23rd May 2024 and has been detention since. After an absolute failure of all legal processes, he was pushed into pleading guilty to crimes he did not commit before the military court” he said.
He added, “We welcome him back and continue to demand for the freedom of all political prisoners!”.
Following his release, Young thanked NUP supporters for praying for him and keeping him in their thoughts.
“Thank you all for standing with us during our time in prison, my dear President (Bobi wine) wherever you are, we have been seeing all your efforts on Tv, we are praying for you” he said.
Bobi young was arrested in Kampala’s Mutungo Zone 2 in 2024 and charged before the General Court Martial with unlawful possession of defence stores under Section 160 of the UPDF Act.
He denied the charges and has been on remand at Luzira Prison for more than two years without a trial date.
