The spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety SP kananura Michael, has revealed that over 30 vehicles have so far been impounded during joint operations conducted by the police and the UPDF Military Police Brigade within the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
“The operations are targeting vehicles involved in traffic violations, including those without number plates, unregistered or unlicensed motor vehicles, vehicles fitted with illegal sirens and swiveling lights, vehicles with concealed number plates and motorists engaged in reckless driving among other offenses” he said.
Kananura noted that the drivers of the impounded vehicles will appear before courts of law to answer the charges preferred against them.
He noted that the operations will continue to ensure sanity on the road.
While announcing the launch of the campaign dubbed, “Operation Tekeleza Sheria” on Tuesday, the UPDF Acting Director Defence Public Information Chris Magezi, said members of the security services who fail to adhere to traffic regulations, including driving without valid driving permits/licenses also face arrest.
“Civilian registered vehicles found in possession of military stores such as military jackets, whether displayed on driver’s seats or not, and other military paraphernalia will be impounded. The drivers or owners of the vehicles will be arrested and court-martialled in accordance with the UPDF Act 2025, as amended” he said.
