President Yoweri Museveni has the late Tooro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, an official burial following his passing on at the age of 34 years in the United States on Thursday.
In a statement released by the Minister for Presidency Milly Babalanda, the National Organising Committee is working hand in hand with the Tooro Kingdom to organise a befitting send-off of the monarch.
“Accordingly, the N.O.C is working hand in hand with the Tooro Kingdom and Ministers from Tooro to organise a befitting send-off. We shall communicate further details regarding the burial arrangements in due course” she said
King Oyo passed on after battling cancer in the United States.
While mourning the deceased, Museveni described his passing as a loss to Tooro and Uganda.
He further revealed that he was approached by Her Royal Highness Kemigisa, Nyinomukama, a few months back who revealed to him that the king had an aggressive cancer, prompting government support to fly them to Germany and then, the USA where he died from.
“H.H. Oyo worked well with the Central Government, thereby avoiding the mistake of trying to use the Cultural Institutions that were restored by the NRM to promote sectarianism. It would be good if all the Cultural leaders understood the importance of this” he said.
Museveni further declared three days of national mourning alongside the official burial.
“I direct that H.H. Oyo be given an official burial and, for three days, all the flags fly at half-mast. The three days are: the day of the burial, the day before and the day after” he said.
His Passing was announced by the Kingdom Premier, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, late Thursday evening.
His Royal Majesty, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV of Tooro Kingdom was born on 16th April, 1992.
At the untimely passing of His father His Royal Majesty King Patrick David Matthew Rwamuhokya Kaboyo Olimi III on 26th August, 1995.
The then three years old Prince Oyo as heir-apparent ascended the throne on 12th September, 1995 to be Crowned at Coronation as the King of the Tooro Kingdom thereby entering the Guinness Book of World Records as the World’s youngest reigning Monarch to date.
