The Kingdom of Tooro is in mourning following the passing of His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, at the age of 34 years.
King Oyo’s passing, who was the world’s youngest King was announced by the Kingdom Premier, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, late Thursday evening.
“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the passing of His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, at approximately 10:00 p.m. this evening” he said.
Rwomiire, described King Oyo’s passing as an immeasurable loss to the Royal Family, the people of Tooro and the nation of Uganda.
“Omukama Atulize. Enkuba Etutire. I call upon the people of Tooro to remain united, calm and prayerful during this difficult time” he noted.
Rwomiire further reassured subjects that the continuity of the Crown is assured, since the late King, left a Prince behind as his heir.
“His Majesty leaves behind a Prince as his heir, whose identity will be formally revealed at the appropriate time, in accordance with the traditions and customs of Tooro Kingdom” he said.
Rwomiire noted that an official statement will follow with further details, including the funeral and mourning arrangements.
His Royal Majesty, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV of Tooro Kingdom was born on 16th April, 1992.
At the untimely passing of His father His Royal Majesty King Patrick David Matthew Rwamuhokya Kaboyo Olimi III on 26th August, 1995.
The then three years old Prince Oyo as heir-apparent ascended the throne on 12th September, 1995 to be Crowned at Coronation as the King of the Tooro Kingdom thereby entering the Guinness Book of World Records as the World’s youngest reigning Monarch to date.
