Police in Greater Masaka is investigating the death of a Senior Four student at Masaka Secondary School, identified as 16 year old Rayati Nassali Nakato, who had been reported missing but was later found dead along the Nyendo – Kako Road.
According to preliminary police reports, Nakato a resident of Nyendo Town Council left her home at around 10 am on Sunday, reportedly to pick academic revision materials from a friend’s home in neighbouring Kako village.
However at around 4:30 pm, she rung her twin sister, Sharifah Babirye, informing her that she had travelled to Nabugabo Sand beach, where moments later her phone was switched off, remaining unreachable which raised concern amongst her family members.
A search for her was mounted by the family and residents on Sunday, which ended on Monday, when her body was discovered along the Nyendo-Kako Road—a route connecting to Nabugabo Sand Beach.
The Southern Regional Police Spokesperson Twaha Kasirye, confirmed the incident, revealing that preliminary investigations revealed visible bruises around the victim’s neck, raising strong suspicions that she may have been sexually assaulted before being murdered and her body dumped by the roadside.
He noted that her body was conveyed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary as investigations continue into Nakato’s death.
