At least two people have lost their lives, while 11 sustained serious injuries in a road crash involving a commuter taxi and a trailer at Kakira Junction along the Jinja-Iganga Highway.
According to a statement released by the Jinja Regional Referral Hospital on X, the facility’s Accident & Emergency Department received 17 victims following the crash.
“Of the 17 casualties received, three patients remain in critical condition and are under close medical supervision. 11 patients are stable and showing encouraging signs of improvement” the statement read.
However the hospital revealed that two victims succumbed to their injuries despite the efforts of our medical teams.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and loved ones during this difficult time, road traffic crashes remain a major public health concern” the hospital said.
Kiira Regional Police spokesperson James Mubi confirmed the accident, saying the bodies of the deceased had been taken to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.

The fatal crash comes just days after 14 people lost their lives in a fatal accident involving a Toyota Hiace taxi (UA 662AQ) and a Sino truck (UBS 040F) transporting sand, in Lwera Swamp, Kamunga Trading Centre, along the Kampala–Masaka Highway.
