The Nsangi Division Police has in custody 11 suspects as investigations intensify into a case of aggravated robbery and rape that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday in Nakirama Cell, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District.
According to Police, at around 4:00 a.m an unidentified assailant allegedly broke into a woman’s shop before attacking her with a knife, reportedly demanded money and threatened to inflict grievous harm if the victim failed to comply.
Following the robbery, the attacker allegedly raped the victim before fleeing the scene.
However the victim managed to move and report the attack at Kikajo Police Post, prompting an immediate response police officers who visited and processed the crime scene alongside a police sniffer dog, TP 297 Sofia, which was introduced at the victim’s bedroom, where the attack had occurred.
The canine successfully picked up a scent trail and tracked it for approximately one kilometre before leading investigators to a nearby bar, where 11 people were found reportedly intoxicated.
Officers noted that during the scent identification, the sniffer dog indicated one of the individuals by sitting beside him, prompting officers to arrest all 11 people who were present for further scrutiny.
The suspects were taken into custody at Kikajo Police Post, where they remain detained as detectives continue with investigations.
