The Kapchorwa Chief Magistrates Court,has charged and remanded the Director Liberty Motors Uganda Limited, Mr. Muhangi Shadaya, over the recent fatal Kapchorwa Bus accident involving pupils of King David Junior School – Ndejje that claimed 24 lives, including the school director.
The court presided over by His Worship Martin Wakayembe, charged Muhangi with three offences under the Traffic and Road Safety Act, Cap. 347.
The charges include permitting driving without a valid driving permit, contrary to Section 32(2), according to police the driver of the bus was not the holder of a valid driving permit and was using his brother’s permit.
Permitting the use of a motor vehicle for the carriage of passengers for hire without a licence contrary to Section 97(1)(a) and permitting the use of a motor vehicle on a road in a mechanically defective condition contrary to Sections 99(1) and (5).
However Muhangi denied the charges and was remanded until August 13th when the case will come up for mention as investigations continue.
