The Former Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju, has responded to recent warnings of arrest by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, following a social media exchange in over Erias Lukwago’s arrest on Monday, telling him that he only was free to either arrest him or kill him, after he criticised his conduct.
On Monday, following the arrest of former Kampala Lord Mayor and president of People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) party, Lukwago from his Wakaliga home, Muhoozi through several posts on his X handle, portrayed that he had ordered for Lukwago’s arrest.
“I have captured a FOOL and taken him to the basement!…….We are still warming up the fool. Pictures soon. This one will learn Kiswahili” he posted.
The post along with others, caused public reaction online including the former legislator, whose comments attracted warnings of arrest from the CDF.
During an interview that has since gone viral following the threats on Monday, Ssemujju urged Ugandans to stop being intimidated to the last resort by Gen Muhoozi, who is accountable to the citizens, since he choose to serve in a public office.
“I don’t have a problem with arresting me, I was on TV with Gen Elly Tumwine after they had killed people in Kampala, Tumwine gloated that more people would be killed, I told him to stop gloating. When I left the TV show, people thought I wouldn’t reach home, but right now Tuwmine is in the grave and am still alive” he said.
He added, “God is the only one who has authority over me, even if Muhoozi beats me and I die, even he does anything to me, there is nothing he can reduce about me, its just a matter of time, he will also find me in the grave. Now did Tumwine find those he had killed?”.
Ssemujju reiterated that while anyone can experience fear or suffer at the hands of those in power, no leader is immortal and all are ultimately answerable to history and to God.
“Even if Muhoozi takes and kills me, he will find me there, I will feel pain like anybody else when Muhoozi has killed me but I can assure you he will find me there” he said.
He added, “I feel pain and I fear like anybody else but I can’t say I won’t sleep because Muhoozi said he is going to arrest me, let him come and arrest me no problem, then he will become an angel, who will be immortal nor even fall sick, he will just be there respected and feared even by malaria…. If a tax payer is the one paying you, they can call you to order, so whether he has said or not, am living my life, whether he arrests me or kills me, it’s entirely up to him”.
Last week, Justice Emmanuel Baguma gave Gen Muhoozi seven days to respond to a petition filed by Dr Kizza Besigye and Hajji Obeid Lutale over alleged social media threats.
Lukwago confirmed on Friday that the Attorney General had been served, but that Gen Muhoozi, Col Peter Ahimbisibwe, and Lt Col Ephraim Byaruhanga were yet to be served.
However, yesterday, SFC operatives seized him from his home and took him into custody.
