The Wakiso Chief Magistrate’s Court has charged and remanded two suspects over the murder of businesswoman Lydia Babirye, earlier this month.
The Chief Magistrate Naume Sikhoya charged Abubakar Ntenge and Shafic Kagga, with kidnap, aggravated robbery, and murder in connection with the killing of Babirye.
According to prosecution, the accused allegedly committed the offenses between June 3 and 4 at Kiteredde Village in Kakiri Town Council, Wakiso District.
The suspects were not allowed to take plea before the court, since it does have the jurisdiction to listen to murder cases.
According to police records, a kidnapping case was reported at Old Kampala Police Station on June 4th after the 52 year old deceased went missing.
The kidnapping suspects later contacted her relatives using her phone and demanded money for her release, following which a joint security team launched investigations and arrested several suspects, including Ssemugenyi Vincent, Nakiryowa Olivia, Kagga Shafiq, and Ntege Abubakar.
Through sustained investigations, detectives linked Kagga Shafiq and Ntege Abubakar to the case, with Ntege subsequently getting arrested in Nateete.
During interrogation, Ntege led detectives to his residence in Kiteredde Village, Kakiri Town Council, Wakiso District, where the victim’s body was recovered.
The body was found in a decomposing state inside the suspect’s house, wrapped in a mattress cover and tied with ropes.
Police detectives also discovered a grave that had been dug within the compound.
Her Worship Naume, has remanded the duo until July 8th, when they will return to court for mention of the case.
