The City Hall Magistrates court has charged and remanded four suspects in the death of Uganda Rugby Cranes and Stanbic Black Pirates forward, Sydney Gongodyo who succumbed to injuries on Friday evening, following an alleged mob attack in Nakawa division.
The quartet, who include Obed Mugwisa, Elly Mundoni, Joseph Owino, and Henry Kabugo, has been charged with murder contrary to Sections 171 and 172 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 128.
According to prosecution, on June 5, 2026, at Upper Naguru East Road in Kampala District, the accused, acting together with others still at large and with malice aforethought, unlawfully caused the death of Gongodyo.
Prosecution further informed court, that inquiries into the murder are still ongoing.
The accused were not allowed to take plea before the magistrate’s court, since it doesn’t have jurisdiction to try murder cases.
The Magistrate Grade One, Edgar Karakire remanded the accused until June 23rd, when the case will come up for mention.
The charge and remand of the quartet, comes days after the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, SP Racheal Kawala revealed that the force had so far arrested 11 suspects in the murder of the late rugby star.
