The Old Kampala Police is investigating the kidnap and subsequent murder of Babirye Lydia, a 52-year-old resident of Kigowa, Ntinda.
According to the Kampala metropolitan Deputy Police PRO, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire a kidnapping case was reported at Old Kampala Police Station on June 4th after the victim went missing.
The suspects later contacted her relatives using her phone and demanded money for her release.
“A joint security team launched investigations and arrested several suspects, including Ssemugenyi Vincent, Nakiryowa Olivia, Kagga Shafiq, and Ntege Abubakar” he said.
Owoyesigyire revealed that through sustained investigations, detectives linked Kagga Shafiq and Ntege Abubakar to the case, with Ntege subsequently getting arrested in Nateete.
“During interrogation, Ntege led detectives to his residence in Kiteredde Village, Kakiri Town Council, Wakiso District, where the victim’s body was recovered. The body was found in a decomposing state inside the suspect’s house, wrapped in a mattress cover and tied with ropes” he said.
Owoyesigyire said investigators also discovered a grave that had been dug within the compound.
“The scene was processed and the body conveyed to KCCA City Mortuary for postmortem examination” he said.
Owoyesigyire noted that the two suspects, Ntege Abubakar and Kagga Shafiq, remain in custody as investigations continue.
