NTUNGAMO – The Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Ntungamo, Ms Atuhaire Rosemary, has warned health workers against absenteeism and lateness, saying the vice amounts to corruption and undermines service delivery.

Ms Atuhaire made the remarks today during an impromptu visit to Ruhoko Health Centre III in Eastern Division, Ntungamo Municipality.

“The purpose of this visit was to monitor and supervise the services given to the people around here,” she said. “We shall continue moving around all health centres in the district to ensure better service delivery to the people of the Republic of Uganda. Health workers must stop delaying and being absent, because that denies patients care.”

She described absenteeism as a form of corruption and quoted the President’s campaign slogan: “Kisanja no sleep, kisanja no corruption. We must wake up and give the people of Uganda good service.”

Ms Atuhaire was accompanied by Ntungamo Municipality Mayor Jacob Kafureka Jakex, the Municipal Human Resource Officer Mr. Fred, the Secretary for Health and Education on the Municipal Council, and other officials.

On arrival, the team found Ruhoko HC III in poor sanitary condition. Ms Atuhaire led the team in a general cleaning exercise to improve hygiene at the facility.

Despite the poor sanitation, she commended government for the infrastructure. “Government has given us a good building with a maternity ward and other wards that will help patients. The facility also has medicine for most diseases. Minus absenteeism by some workers, everything else is good with Ruhoko Health Centre III,” she said.

The Deputy RDC pledged to continue spot checks at all health facilities in Ntungamo to enforce accountability and improve service delivery.
