The Chief of Defence Forces and Chairman Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has endorsed former Deputy Speaker of the 11th Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, for the same position in the incoming 12th Parliament.
Gen Muhoozi, made the announcement through his X account on Tuesday, and urged all PLU subscribing legislators, to back Tayebwa in the race.
“On the issue of Deputy Speaker, after getting guidance from the Commander-in-Chief, all PLU MPs and PLU leaning MPs will support Rt.Honourable @Thomas_Tayebwa for that position. Congratulations Rt.Honourable. ”he posted.
Muhoozi’s u– turn on the position comes days after he withdrew earlier endorsement of Rt Hon Anita Among and Tayebwa for speaker and deputy speaker of the 12 parliament.

Tayebwa’s endorsement on Tuesday, came amidst a security search on his former counterpart Anita Among’s office, in an ongoing investigation over allegations related to corruption, accountability, illicit enrichment and money laundering.
CID officers have cordoned off the 5th floor of Parliament’s East Wing, as search operations continue in the office of former Speaker Anita Among.

The search at Parliament, comes hours after security operatives impounded her Rolls-Royce Cullinan and a Range Rover with number plates “AAA,” from her Kigo residence.
The seizure on Monday, follows security raids on her homes on Sunday in Kigo and Ntinda suburbs, with the search at Kigo, leading to the discovery of several luxury cars, including the controversial UGX 3.2 billion Rolls-Royce Cullinan 2025.
