Six people have lost their lives and three others sustained injuries following a single fatal crash that occurred on Saturday, at about 5:00am at Lumonya along the Maddu–Ssembabule Road in Gomba District.
According to the Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety PRO SP kananura Michael, the crash involved vehicle number UA 788DJ, a Toyota Hiace taxi which was reportedly transporting people from Ssembabule to Nakasongola for a wedding ceremony.
“The driver is alleged to have lost control due to speeding, causing the vehicle to overturn several times” he said.
Kananura noted that four people died instantly at the scene, while two others later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
“We continue to urge all motorists to observe speed limits & prioritize safety on the road. Speeding remains one of the major causes of fatal road crashes” he said.
