The police have launched investigations into the shooting of a woman that occured near the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among’s residence on Mackinnon Road in Kampala on Thursday.
The woman, who was driving a Toyota Harrier (UBQ 038A), had reportedly just left prayers at All Saints Cathedral when she turned onto Mackinnon Road towards the Speaker’s residence, a high-security area.
She was shot and injured by a police guard after she allegedly refused to heed instructions to stop and allow the convoy of the Speaker to pass.
After the shooting, the woman was evacuated from the vehicle she was driving, and taken to an unidentified medical facility.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala, confirmed the incident, noting that they are looking for the female driver to question her over the incident.
“We have picked interest in the incident and investigations are ongoing. We are tracing for the victim,” she said.
