The High court has found Christopher Okello Onyum guilty on all four counts of murder of four toddlers aged 1–2 years at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre, Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha has adjourned the court proceeding until 3pm for sentencing.
During conviction, Justice Komuhangi noted that she agreed with the three assessor’s joint opinion, that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that Okello had committed the crimes with malice aforethought.
“On the contrary, I find and am in agreement with the joint opinion of the three assessors that the prosecution has proved that the accused person unlawfully caused the death of the three infants with malice of forethought” she said.
She added, “Consequently, this court finds that the prosecution has proved all the ingredients of the offence of murder in the four counts against the accused person, Christopher Okello Onyum”.
“The accused person is accordingly found guilty of the murder of Eteku Gideon in count one, Keisha Ageno Ruth in count two, Sseruyange Ignatius in count three, and Odeke Rayan in count four. In agreement with the joint opinion of the assessors, I hereby convict Christopher Okelo Onyum of the offence of murder, contrary to sections 171 and 172 of the Penal Code Act, part 128 in count one, for the murder of Eteku Gideon, count two for the murder of Keisha Ageno Ruth, count three for the murder of Sseruyange Ignatius and count four for the murder of Odeke Rayan as indicted” she said.
The High Court sitting at Ggaba Community Church is currently hearing sentencing this afternoon.
