On Thursday, hundreds of mourners descended on Lunyolya Village in Kalagala Sub-county, Luweero District to send off the late Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament, Hellen Nakimuli, who passed on Sunday afternoon following an unsuccessful uterine fibroids operation at Alexandros Medical Center in Kampala.
Members and leaders of the National Unity Platform (NUP) to which Nakimuli subscribed to, from different parts of the country, with many attending the send-off in the party’s reverend red colors were left in tears as speaker after speaker eulogised the late legislator.
Among those who attended the send off include NUP’s acting President Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru, Bobi wine’s elder brother Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, popularly known as Chairman Nyanzi, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya, Mayor of Nakawa Division Nubian Buken Ali, among a number of other leaders.
Some of the newly elected legislators include; NUP Kalungu East elect MP Kiruluuta Yusuf Jr Nkeretanyi, Nansana Mayor elect Sserunkuuma John Bosco, Mukono South MP elect Maseruka Robert and Lwengo District chairman elect Abas Kizito.
“Our spirits are broken, our hearts are in utter devastation and disbelief. We are already in Luweero celebrating the life of Hon. Hellen Nakimuli and honoring her final journey on earth. We have indeed lost a great fighter” Nkeretanyi mourned.
Tears, tributes and tight embraces marked Nakimuli’s final journey as Luweero pauses to celebrate a life described as deeply impactful and service-driven.

Prior to the burial, a memorial service was held earlier in her honour at the Orthodox Church in Namungoona in Kampala city.
Dignitaries, including Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa, together with the clergy led by His Eminence Metropolitan Jeronymos Muzeeyi, laid wreaths and paid their last respects to the late Nakimuli.
Throughout both ceremonies, the NUP foot soldiers lined up and worked alongside the Uganda Police force security offered by parliament, without any chaos occurring between the two parties as earlier anticipated by Minister of State Microfinance and Small Enterprises. Hon. Haruna Kasolo Kyeyune in Parliament on Wednesday.
Even though a number of her constituents from Kalangala islands who used the ferry to travel and see off their legislator faced some technical issues during travel, they were able to arrive at the burial grounds later on to send off their beloved legislator, who was described by many speakers as a strong and effective advocate for her constituents.
May The Soul of The Late Nakimuli Rest in Peace.
