As the country still comes to terms with the sudden passing of Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament, Hellen Nakimuli on Sunday afternoon following an unsuccessful operation at Alexandros Medical Center, a number of people have since taken to social media to eulogise the deceased, whose death stunned fellow legislators and constituents.

Buganda Kingdom Premier Charles Peter Mayiga, described her as a person deeply devoted to her Kingdom and works as a legislator.
“We were with her during the 71st birthday prayers for Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s at St Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral in Namungoona. She has been very enthusiastic about Kingdom matters and committed to her works as a Member of parliament” he said.
While delivering her speech during the birthday prayers, Nakimuli urged religious leaders to speak out against ongoing human rights violations across the country.
“We shouldn’t allow our country to go down the wrong path. We grew up being told to be truthful. Our country is heading in the wrong direction, but people are silent, including religious leaders. They wonder whether they will be given cars by the government if they speak against human rights violations. Let’s speak truth to power, for our rewards are in heaven” she said during the prayers.
The Leader of Opposition in Parliament and NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, revealed that he spoke with the deceased a few hours earlier as she drove herself to the hospital, for the surgery which she described as minor.
“This morning at about 9am, I spoke to Hon Hellen Nakimuli (Kalangala Woman MP) regarding a meeting of Opposition MPs that we were planning for tomorrow, and she was coordinating it as Shadow Minister for Information” he said.
He added, “At the time, she was literally driving herself to hospital for a surgery which she indicated was not major. Unfortunately, she has not made it out of theatre. She has died during the procedure”.
The Speaker of ParliamentAnita Annet Among, said she was shocked by Nakimuli’s passing who was the Shadow Minister for Information
“Words are insufficient to convey the shock we are experiencing at this moment, and we pray that the Lord Almighty sustains her family, friends, and all of us during this challenging time” she said.
