The second day of public hearing of the murder of four toddlers at Gaba Early Childhood Development Centre, got off to an ugly start after a Uganda Prisons van transporting the prime suspect Okello Christopher Onyum, failed to break and rammed into a group of journalists, leaving one severely injured.
Journalist Ronald Mulwana, who operates a Tik Tok account under the name PL on TV, has been rushed to a hospital for medical attention.
The Prisons van registration number UU 00067 knocked him, after it failed to break as it reversed on slope at Ggaba Community Church Grounds in Makindye Division where the trial is ongoing.
Security personnel who were surrounding the van, jumped out of it’s way as it reversed dangerously, until it came to a halt after running over Mulwana.
The shocking incident has left the area in panic and disbelief and a breakdown truck has since towed away the ill-fated prison van as the second day of the trial commences.
On Monday, Okello denied all the four murder charges against him as his public trial begun.
Last week, Okello was charged with four counts of murder, contrary to section 171 and 172 of the penal code act, cap 128.
Prosecution told court that Okello on the second day of April this year at Ggaba Early Childhood Development centre, Ggaba trading zone, Ggaba parish, Makindye Division Kampala district, with malice aforethought unlawfully caused deaths of Eteku Gideon, Keisha Agenoroth, Sseruynage Ignatius, and Odeke Rayan.
