The State Minister for Higher Education, John Chrysestom Muyingo has ordered for the immediate closure of three schools in Ggaba, a Kampala suburb, following the gruesome murder of four toddlers at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Center on Thursday.

While touring the crime scene on Good Friday, Minister Muyingo noted that following security advice, three schools in the vicinity, Maranatha High School, Maranatha Primary, and Ggaba Early Childhood Development Center were closed until further notice.

“The parents should immediately pick their children from school, including nursery, primary and high school” he said.

Muyingo further ordered the Day care management to make statements at police, providing a comprehensive report on the events that culminated into the demise of the children.

“This centre should close with immediate effect until further notice” he said.

Minister Muyingo further urged heads of education institutions to ensure they put in place all safety and security guidelines in place to ensure the safety of learners.

“Managers and leaders of educational institutions make sure that we enforce all these guidelines to the letter and ensure that our children are safe. Our, the inspectorate has also been directed even to do more, even if it means spending a little bit more, so that we know that our children go to school, they are safe and secure” he said.

On Thursday, the country was gripped with shock after 39 year old Okello Christopher Onyum, hacked four pupils of Gaba Early Childhood Development Centre to death.
