The Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has released Brig Gen Johnson Namanya from detention following a meeting between the two Generals.
According to the acting Spokesperson of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Col Chris Magezi, Brig Gen Namanya was cleared of all allegations that had been levelled against him and is soon expected to resume his official duties.
“The Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba has today released Brig Gen Johnson Namanya from detention after an amicable and friendly meeting in which the latter was cleared of all allegations leveled against him. Brig Gen Namanya will resume his military duties accordingly” Magezi said in a statement.
Last week, Brig Gen Johnson Namanya who was until his arrest serving as the Commissioner for Citizenship and Passport Management at the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control in the Ministry of Internal Affairs was arrested alongside Maj. Gen Don William Nabasa over alleged corruption related offences.
The duo were detained at the Kasenyi military facility, on orders reportedly issued by Gen Muhoozi on March 27, 2026.
Since taking office as the CDF, Gen Muhoozi has overseen a number of changes in the force who according to insiders, say is meant to ensure internal accountability measures within the military hierarchy.
