Police in Kyankwanzi District have launched investigations into a suspected triple murder case after an angry mob lynched two men who they found with a decomposing woman’s body in their house.
According to the Wamala region police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi, the two men, identified as Ssemasaka and Hakiza Damaseni, both adult males of Rwandan origin and residents of Kiryanongo village, were attacked and killed by a mob after villagers allegedly discovered a human body inside their house.
According to preliminary police reports, the mob descended on the suspects after residents discovered the body of a woman identified as Vensi, a resident of Nakabugo Village, who had earlier been reported missing.
Residents reportedly became suspicious after noticing a foul smell coming from the suspects’ house which prompted a search, during which the body was discovered, leading to outrage among community members.
The situation quickly escalated, and the two suspects were attacked and killed by the mob before police could intervene.
The chairman of Kiryanongo Village later reported the incident to police at Bananywa Police Station.
Police officers led by the District Police Commander for Kyankwanzi visited the scene and began investigations.
The bodies of the three deceased individuals were transported to Ntwetwe Health Centre IV for post-mortem examination.
Kigozi appealed to the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and rather report any suspicious criminal activity to police
