The Inspectorate of Government (IG) has issued a final warning to public officers to refund funds that they obtained through abuse of office, irregular advances and misappropriated public resources.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Inspectorate reminded all public officials who have defaulted on the payment of their refunds to Government to do so to avoid prosecution before 30th April, 2026.

The inspectorate noted that the outstanding balances arise from money which the officers used for personal gain at the expense of public services, causing loss to the government.

In view of their continued non-compliance, charges relating to disobedience of lawful orders and abuse of office will be preferred against those who remain adamant and deliberately defiant of statutory IG directives.

The inspectorate noted that all listed officers are required to come to the IG on or before 31 March, 2026 and reconcile their outstanding balances, failure of which the IG may proceed with further enforcement measures, including prosecution.

“This is a final reminder to give the affected officers an opportunity to be heard in compliance with principles of natural justice” the statement reads.

Below is a list of the officers who face prosecution;

Among those listed include Pius Wakabi Kasajja, Former PS Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) and Steven Turyamureeba, Internal Auditor MAAIF.

    THE IGG SHOULD ENSURE THE RECOVERED FUNDS ARE GIVEN TO THE AFFECTED INSTITUTIONS TO CARRY OUT THE INTENDED ACTIVITIES.LEST THEY ARE EMBEZZLED BY OTHER CORRUPT OFFICERS.
    BUT AGAIN ARE THOSE REFUNDS EVER REFLECTED IN THE NATIONAL BUDGET?
