The Uganda Traffic Police spokesperson SP Michael kananura, has revealed that five people have lost their lives while nine others are still receiving treatment following a fatal accident that occurred at California Village in Bweyale Town Council, along the Gulu–Kampala Highway in Kiryandongo District in the wee hours of Tuesday.
According to Kananura, the fatal road traffic crash occurred at approximately 2:00am involving three vehicles, a Bus belonging to Nile Coach registration number UA 657CM, a King Long Bus UBQ 350T and Sino Truck number UBF 576B.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the driver of a Mega Bus, travelling from Gulu to Kampala, rammed into a stationary Sino truck at the above mentioned location. Upon impact, the driver lost control of the vehicle and subsequently knocked a Nile Coach bus which also lost control and overturned” Kananura said.
Kananura noted that as a result, three passengers of the Mega Bus died instantly at the scene while 11 other passengers in the same bus sustained injuries and were rushed to Kiryandongo Hospital for treatment.
“However two victims later succumbed to their injuries, bringing the total number of fatalities to five” he said.
Kananura revealed that the police investigations into the exact circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
