The football fraternity in Uganda is in deep concern after news of former KCCA FC and Uganda Cranes coach Mike Mutebi going missing over the weekend.
According to the Local Football appreciation awards (LFA Awards) organisers, Mike Mutebi’s family made a distress call at 10am on Sunday reporting his disappearance.
“Mr. Mike went missing yesterday and his whereabouts are unknown up now and all his phones immediately went off. We ask whoever has any information that may help us and the family locate him to immediately contact us on 0756361196 or 0792334490” the statement posted on X reads.
Mutebi’s brother, Kenneth Mubiru, has since revealed that the coach was last seen on Saturday evening during a church retreat at Kisubi Beach, along the Kampala- Entebbe Highway.
“He’s been missing, last seen Saturday about 6:45pm at Kisubi Beach with his fellow church members” he said.
Coach Mutebi is widely regarded as one of the most influential football coaches in Uganda’s modern era.
Known for his emphasis on possession-based football and youth development, Mutebi played a pivotal role in shaping many of the country’s top football talents.
His legacy is most deeply rooted at KCCA FC where he transformed the club into a continental powerhouse during his tenure between 2016 and 2021, he transformed the Lugogo-based side into a continental powerhouse.
Under his guidance, KCCA achieved a historic haul, including three UPL titles, two Uganda Cups, four Super Cups and a CECAFA Club Championship.
Posters circulating on social media are urging anyone who may have seen Mutebi to report to the nearest police station or contact his relatives.
