The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged all Ugandans living in Iran to take serious caution of their safety, and advised them to leave the country through any possible means as the war escalates.
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bagiire Vincent Waiswa, in a notice issued on Saturday, urged Ugandans to leave Iran in escalation of the US/Israel bombardments on Iran and following retaliatory attacks by Iran on US allies in the Gulf states.
“In light of the escalating Security situation, all Ugandan citizens in the territory of Iran, who can, are advised to take serious precautions for their safety and leave Iran through any possible means” he said.
Bagiire noted that Government has also withdrawn all non-essential staff from the Embassy in Tehran for their safety reiterating that consular services are severely limited for the time with alternative arrangements being put in place.
“Ugandans who are staying in the country are urged to alert community leaders of their whereabouts, stay indoors and monitor media for developments. Information about evacuations will be limited until the situation normalizes” he said.
Bagiire further urged all Ugandans to suspend travel to the Middle East until further notice.
On Sunday, Iranian state television announces the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, declaring 40 days of public mourning across the country.
Khamenei was killed at his office on Saturday morning in the first waves of joint US/ Israel airstrikes on Iran.
