A man who collapsed dead after shoppimg at a roadside market at Bulamu village along Kampala–Mityana Road, on Saturday evening has been identified as city hotelier David Kitagenda Magezi.
Following wide circulation of a video of his lifeless body lying beside his Toyota Fielder registration number UBK 765Y, exiled activist Stella Nyanzi identified the deceased as her cousin.
“It is with deep shock that I announce the sudden death of my gentle cousin David Kitagenda Magezi, whose video is circulating on social media as people try to identify him. Today, David Magezi Kitagenda collapsed, dropped down and died while in the process of putting his shopping from a busy market into the boot of his car. He is not a stranger. He is my cousin” the renowned activist posted on her X account on Saturday evening.
According to Nyanzi, David is the oldest son born to her late uncle Mr Frederick F Magezi, who was the longterm Executive Director of the National Insurance Corporation until his retirement and Mrs Marjorie Magezi whose home is on Magezi Close in Muyenga Tankhill, Kampala.
She further noted that David is the brother to Rebecca Magezi Bukenya, Marjorie Magezi, Fiona Magezi and Frederick Magezi.
“Most of his life, David Magezi was a manager of different hotels in Uganda. He was also a devout Christian, active in whichever church communities he worshipped at. Always smiling, always attentive while listening to others speak, David was a very gentle soul whose preoccupation was serving the needs of others. Kino kitalo nnyo, kitalo ddala!” Nyanzi mourned her late cousin.
Following the viral circulation of the deceased, lying lifeless after he collapsed, a number of members of the public have since called on sensitisation of people on first aid skills noting that a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) could have saved the Kitagenda’s life.
