A fatal accident along the Mbarara Lyantonde highway involving two motor vehicles has claimed the life of Julius Kitone, a young ambitious joirnalist with Naguru based NBS TV.
Kitone’s life was cut short this evening in a fatal accident at Kibega 1 village involving two motor vehicles, UBQ 016U Toyota Hiace white in colour and KDQ 668L/ZH 5133 M/Benz Actros that claimed eight lives,injurying one victim that was rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral hospital for treatment, all occupants of the Toyota Hiace.
According to SP Kasasira Samson, the Police PRO Rwizi, it’s alleged that the Toyota Hiace was moving from Mbarara headed to Lyantonde while the trailer was moving from Lyantonde headed to Mbarara direction.
“The Toyota Hiace driver over took from a corner and ended up colliding with the trailer that was coming from the opposite direction in it’s lane at Kibega 1 Village, along the Mbarara Lyantonde causing fatality and serious injuries to the occupants in the Toyota Hiace ” the police statement read.
SP Kasasira revealed that four bodies of the deceased are still stuck in the vehicle but efforts to retrieve them are still ongoing as efforts to identify the deceased are also still ongoing.
SP Kasasira revealed that the cause of accident was reckless driving.
