The National Unity Platform (NUP) Principal Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu aka Bobi Wine, on Friday night reported a second military raid on his home in Magere and beat up his family members before separating them from his wife Barbie Kyagulanyi.
Bobi Wine who went into hiding after escaping the first January 16 night raid on his Magere home noted that he wasn’t sure of the intentions of the soldiers who brutalised his family members.
“They have currently isolated my wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, alone. Their intentions are unclear!” Bobi wine posted on his X account.
Bobi Wine who remains in hiding rejected the results of the January 15 presidential polls in which President Museveni was declared winner with 71.65%.
In a video recorded by Barbie that has since gone viral, Barbie is heard questioning the heavily armed men their intentions towards her and he family.
According to officials in the opposition, the raid was aimed at deliberately seizing Barbie Kyagulanyi’s phone who has in recent days been in active contact with international media, diplomats and legal observers.
Earlier in the day, Barbie briefed international actors on the heavy security presence at Magere and the treatment of the family, raising concerns that the device was targeted both to halt information flow and potentially to help track Bobi Wine.
The raid at Bobi Wine’s home happened hours after First son and CDF Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, revealed that security personnel had detained 2,000 opposition supporters, killed 30, and were hunting for more following a disputed presidential election in which his father won a seventh term.
The NUP Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi revealed that he had been blocked from accessing Bobi Wine’s home to establish the safety of his wife and children following an alert of a second raid on his home.
“I have been denied access by the numerous gun-men, who am told have broken the house doors, assaulted the family and occupants, ransacked the house, and taken all the gadgets they could find.
I’ve spoken to some senior police officers asking why they have to keep behaving in such a vile manner instead of issuing summons to whoever they are interested in. They however say they are not aware of the raid, and apparently don’t even know who is commanding the operation!!!”he posted on X.
By the time of this publication, the police and military were yet to issue an official statemtn on why a raid was carried out on Bobi Wine’s Magere home on Friday.
