President Yoweri Museveni has declared January 15th and 16th, 2026 public holodays with five days left to the national polls.
In a directive issued this evening, the NRM Presiential flag bearer asserted that this was meant to allow Ugandans participate in the Presidential and Parliamentary elections .
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred upon the President by Section 2 (2) of the
Public Holidays Act, I declare 1sth and 16h January, 2026 to be observed as public
holidays throughout Uganda for the purpose of enabling citizens to participate in the Presidential and Parliamentary elections” the directive reads.
The directive comes as the eight nominated candidates put their last cards at play to ask for Ugandans to vote for them on 15th Januart next week.
Recently, the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu aka Bobi Wine Deployed the Call 50 People Campaign a last minute strategy to garner root support across the country.
In a statement shared on his x handle, Bobi wine urged his supporters to make 50 phone calls each to voters everyday campaigning for him.
The presidential contenders include Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine (National Unity Platform – NUP); incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (National Resistance Movement – NRM); Elton Joseph Mabirizi (Conservative Party – CP); and Robert Kasibante (National Peasants Party – NPP).
Other candidates are Nathan Nandala Mafabi (Forum for Democratic Change – FDC); Mugisha Muntu (Alliance for National Transformation – ANT); Munyagwa Mubarak Sserunga (Common Man’s Party – CMP); and Bulira Frank Kabinga (Revolutionary People’s Party – RPP).
