With only days left to the national polls, disqualified National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Mathias Walukagga has endorsed NUP leaning independent Emmanuel Magoola for the Busiro East Member of Parliament seat.
Walukagga announced the endorsement while addressing journalists on Tuesday in Bulenga and also revealed that he would be backing Magoola throughout the campaigns to win the Busiro East race.
“The party used opinion sampling when they collected information from the area residents to give me that card, I believe that even you as you move around and carry out your opinion sampling, I believe you hear that at least we vote Magoola” he said.
He added, “Thus ladies and gentlemen as I conclude, I want to use this opportunity and authority entrusted in me by the National Unity Platform as the flag bearer and spotting director, I inform my team and my leaders that Emmanuel Magoola is the candidate who will deliver us victory in Busiro East”
Walukagga urged voters to priotise the Party’s mission to ensure that the party secures the Busiro East Seat.
Walukagga’s decision comes after the High court in Kampala upheld a decision by the Electoral Commission to disqualify him as the National Unity Platform (NUP’s) flag bearer for the Busiro East MP race over lack of required academic qualifications.
During the party primaries last year, Magoola contested for the party flag alongside Walukagga and Medard Sseggona which was eventually awarded to Walukagga.
Magoola opted to contest as an independent candidate and even mocked the people behind the removal of Walukagga from the race noting that he was still an alternative choice for the party in the elections.
